The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial World Series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment except for George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Wilson stated "there's no question that it hurts" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
