France will start stopping migrant vessels in Channel after UK pressure

French officials have consented to begin stopping migrant vessels in the Channel, after months of pressure from the United Kingdom.

The change in policy follows the British leader wrote to the President asking him to support the initiative and stating there currently "have no effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French security forces have been authorized to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to official statements.

French authorities have infrequently acted to prevent the overcrowded boats departing from the shoreline because it is considered excessively high a risk to both officers and civilians.

"It is essential that we deploy these tactics this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel waters."

Currently, a French naval police spokesperson states personnel will start intervening at sea, with the objective of safeguarding lives.

Notably, the spokesperson excluded the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had previously been reported as a potential method to snarl the engines of the vessels.

This determination to take action at all is a major advancement, coming after a short-lived shift towards a more aggressive strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous government official departed from office.

That was highlighted in the summer month, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and President, when authorities were observed wading into the sea to slash the sides of a boat.

Currently French authorities will again be permitted to stop boats prior to they pick up migrant passengers from the coastal areas of northern France, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are currently postponing the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be looking for ways to adjust to avoid detection, as they have frequently done in the past.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for response.
